happy songs
Lake- Roger Miller
This song is my favorite off of the album that came out earlier this year, Giving and Receiving. How can any English major resist that first verse. And I'm not even a Hemingway fan. ( ;__; Sorry, gods of the American literary canon).
Here is a beautiful description of the lyrics by Ashley Eriksson of Lake:
The experience of art can be so overpowering. I’m the kind of person that starts crying during the trailers before a movie even starts. Once I went to an art museum and cried uncontrollably while staring at a field painting by Morris Louis. Another feeling that people have when they experience art is that the artist has somehow channeled the listener/viewer or that they are talking about the listener/viewer, personally. Rather than feeling “This is like me” they actually think “This is me.”
Acid House Kings- I Just called to Say (Something in Swedish*)
Dare you to feel sad while listening to this. I dare you.
*for those curious and not linguistically inclined, he is calling to say he loves you. yay, google translate!

open melody 2011 recap
Open Melody 2011 was great fun. If you missed it, here's a recap biased toward my favorite events of the night. Frank Fairfield was my far and away my favorite. Sir Richard Bishop was also amazing, though I was pretty sleepy by the time his set rolled around. And Let's Paint TV was, of course, an entertaining experience! You can see what the audience experienced (or more specifically Mr. Paint, himself) on the point of view video below. Make it out to next year's y'all. And until then keep checking Acrobatics Everyday for more awesome events in the Irvine area.
Frank Fairfield- 9 Pound Hammer
Frank Fairflield- Call Me a Dog When I'm Gone
Sir Richard Bishop of Sun City Girls- Esoterica of Abyssinia
Taken last night by Mr. Paint's helmet camera. Skip to 8:50 for small fire.

Video flood in honor of the late Bert Jansch
The truly talented Scottish singer-songwriter, Bert Jansch, passed away this past Wednesday after a battle with cancer. His contribution to folk music with Pentangle and through his own work has been prolific, and his style is echoed in the music of his contemporaries and those that followed.
From the guardian.co.uk:
Those he influence included Jimmy Page, Nick Drake, Graham Coxon, Donovan, Bernard Butler and Paul Simon. According to fellow guitarist Johnny Marr: "He completely reinvented guitar playing and set a standard that is still unequalled today... without Bert Jansch, rock music as it developed in the 60s and 70s would have been very different."
"He is a hero of mine, one of my greatest influences. Bert was one of the all-time great acoustic guitarists and singer songwriters" -Neil Young
The music speaks better than I ever could so I hope you will take a moment to listen. Love you, Bert.
